Aid for Friends

Once every other month Elam members join together to assemble home cooked meals for Aid for Friends https://aidforfriends.org/. Meals are frozen to be delivered to isolated and homebound persons in the five-county Greater Philadelphia region by Aid for Friends volunteers. Other local groups and individuals also make meals which are brought to Elam for distribution. Packing materials with instructions are always available at Elam for anyone willing to help.

Aid for Friends has been in continuous operation since 1974 and currently serve over 1600 individuals 7 dinners per week and offer soups or breakfast items when available. Their meals and outreach services are provided free of charge, enabling those served to conserve their limited fixed-incomes for their other necessities and living expenses. They do not impose any time limit on their services to friends, nor is there an age requirement for the program. Most of the clients are elderly, however, and about a quarter of those served are individuals under 60 who are homebound from disabilities.
